What education and/or training do you have?
I am Yoga Alliance certified E-RYT 500 and YACEP, having completed a 500-hour training in Bikram Yoga, two 200-hour trainings in Vinyasa Flow, a 50-hour Yin Yoga training, and also a 50-hour Stand-Up Paddle Yoga training. I have 20+ years of personal practice and over 15 years instructing, during which time, I've lead classes to students of all backgrounds and ability levels. I continue to further my education by attending various classes and workshops. I am on faculty for the Raja Yoga Academy Teacher Training. I am also a co-founder of Align Yoga studio in Pleasant Hill, CA.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started practicing yoga in my early 20's to correct my poor slouching posture. Yoga helped me to correct my spine and improve my overall fitness. It was also very therapeutic mentally and emotionally, helping to relieve stress.
What do you enjoy about the work you do?
I really enjoy connecting with my students and working with them to improve their practice, body awareness, and overall fitness & wellness.
What types of clients/students have you worked with?
I have worked with people with all types of bodies, from pro athletes to people with limitations and disabilities, from beginners to advanced practitioners. I try to meet each person where they are and give them tools to improve in the ways that they want.
What is your typical process for working with a new client/student?
We will have a brief consultation during our first session so that I may get to know you a little and understand your needs. From there I will guide you through a practice that suits your level, and challenge you if you're up for it! Since I am trained in multiple styles, weekly sessions can vary or remain consistent, based on your preference.
What advice would you give a client/student looking to hire a yoga instructor?
Make sure the instructor you choose to work with has experience and proper training. Experience means they know their own body and can help you to better understand yours.
What questions should I think through before talking to you?
What are your objectives for practicing yoga—more strength, improved flexibility, stress-relief, body-awareness, self-realization... All of the above? Having an initial objective is a starting point which can help to motivate you to continue, especially as you begin to see improvement. Many other benefits will come naturally as you practice consistently.
Do you come to me or do I come to you?
I am available to travel to you in the San Francisco Bay Area. I am also available for traveling longer distances to or with certain clients given advanced notice.
What should I know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My fee reflects my experience and training and my commitment to helping you get the most out of your practice. I am happy to offer a discount for multiple sessions.
