Golden Milk / 2 Ways

Golden Milk is a typically a nut milk beverage with turmeric and spices. Turmeric is known for its vibrant golden color and its anti-inflammatory properties. I did a lot of experimenting to test out Golden Milk recipes and methods.. Depending on the ingredients you have on hand and the consistency you like, here are the two recipes I came up with.

One is a bit simpler, can be mixed by hand or electric mini whisk (preferred), and only requires dried/ground spices. The other is a much richer, frothier variation with whole ingredients that need to be combined in a blender. Each recipe serves two and can be made warm or cold.

Golden Milk Latte, paste method using dried spices

Golden Milk Latte, paste method using dried spices

PASTE METHOD (mix by hand)
» 2 cups unsweetened almond milk
+
» 1 Tbsp coconut oil, firm
» 1 Tbsp agave nectar
» 1/4 tsp vanilla
» 1/2 to 1 tsp turmeric powder
» 1/2 tsp cinnamon
» 1/4 tsp cardamom
» 1/4 tsp ginger
» 1/8 tsp black pepper
» pinch of Himalayan salt
» 1 tsp lucuma powder (optional)

In a small bowl, create a paste by mixing together all ingredients except the almond milk. (The paste will help you better incorporate the powdered spices into the liquid so you don't get clumps. It pastes up better when the coconut oil is slightly firm.)
Gently warm the almond milk in a small saucepan. Remove from heat, then add the paste mixture. Stir well or use an electric mini whisk.
Serve and enjoy! 💛

Golden Milk Latte, whole ingredients combined in a high speed blender

Golden Milk Latte, whole ingredients combined in a high speed blender

WHOLE INGREDIENTS METHOD (mix with blender)
» 2 cups unsweetened almond milk
» 2 Tbsps hemp seeds
» 1  Tbsp coconut butter (coconut oil will work too)
» 1/4 tsp vanilla
» 1 medjool date (2 for sweeter)
» 1 inch fresh turmeric, peeled and roughly chopped (or 1 tsp dried)
» 1/2 inch fresh ginger, peeled and roughly chopped (or 1/4 tsp dried)
» 1/2 tsp cinnamon
» 1/4 tsp cardamom
» 1/8 tsp black pepper
» pinch of Himalayan salt
» 1 tsp lucuma powder (optional)

Gently warm the almond milk in a small saucepan. In a high speed blender, combine almond milk and all remaining ingredients and blend well until the date has been broken down.
If you're using fresh turmeric, this version may not have that rich golden color. To boost the color, add 1/4 tsp dried/ground turmeric. 🌼
*Option: You may omit the almond milk and instead substitute 2 cups warm water plus an additional tablespoon of hemp seeds.
